Helping our community

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:08 pm by Marisa Galland

Please take just a moment and help some of our community members out by voting on this great idea! It just takes a second, and you could be changing lives! Read about their plan below and then vote HERE!

About Romanced Records
Romanced Records was founded to create, promote, and distribute creative and quality music. We are also motivated to use these gifts to benefit the world around us. In March 2008, we partnered with a tour entitled “Rock for Water” which raised $26,000 for clean water.

Goals

* Organize and promote a tour to raise money for California communities
* Funnel 100% of donated funds to homeless shelters in each city

The Rock for Water tour received funding which covered the costs of our food, gas, lodging, and airfare for the artists. This enabled us to do something great! On each stop of the tour, we asked those in attendance to give generously, knowing that each penny they donated would go DIRECTLY to digging wells in southern Sudan. It wasn’t going in our gas tanks or in our pockets.

Why dig wells? Because every 15 seconds, a child dies from water-related diseases.

This time around, we want to Rock for California. Using connections we have established with non-profits and homeless shelters throughout the state, we want to do our part by using the many talents and resources we have. We make music and Rock for Water showed us that alone is enough to help another in need. This grant will cover the costs of travel while every penny raised on the road will go directly to the shelter in each city.

Will you Rock with us?

Harper Simon plays Cellar Door!

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:16 pm by Marisa Galland

Harper Simon, son of Paul Simon (yes, of Simon & Garfunkel) will be performing at The Cellar Door on Thursday, December 17th at 9:30pm.

His tour comes after high praise from Rolling Stone Magazine, who had great things to say about his new album “Harper Simon” . Simon also recently appeared on the “Late Show with David Letterman”.

A word about our calendar

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:38 pm by Marisa Galland

Our new calendar is up now on our website, and it’s still not perfect, but we’re working on it.  The good news is, now you have several ways to get your information, and you can surf on your phone!

One of the problems we’re having is showing events that repeat, such as Tumbao Tuesdays.  They repeat on the other calendars, but not the fancy black calendar, so don’t be confused if you see it on one, but not the other. We’re working on it, sorry!

Other than that, we are happy to be able to give you several different options, including a printable calendar. So check it out at www.cellardoorvisalia.com/events–news.html and tell us what you think!

Also, you can find us on facebook, myspace, twitter, broadtexter, our email list, and of course, this blog, and our website.  We’ll see you around!

They are the Argyle Pimps, so buy them a drink…

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:16 am by Marisa Galland

It’s like a comedian had a baby with a geeky rapper- you don’t have to use your imagination to picture what that would be like, you just have to come out and see the show Friday, December 4th. With their clever rhymes and charming sarcasm, you’ll be more than mildly entertained. If you have a sense of humor, that is, and well, since you’ll already be there to see Gary Lee open for them, we’re sure you do!

Audience participation at its funnest

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:21 pm by Marisa Galland

Thursday’s show at The Cellar Door will allow the crowd to pull on strings of yarn to produce a musical effect.

You have to see this 5 minute documentary on Luke Fishbeck’s “make a baby” project.   According to the youtube video, “the project uses a rug, audio converters, and a laptop to produce sounds/music through skin contact”.
