Modest Mouse

Even though it did not take place at The Cellar Door, it’s so big, we feel we should at least mention it!

For those who went, how awesome was that show?!

For those who didn’t- I’m really sorry. Truly. I won’t rub it in any more!

Thanks so much to Aaron and his crew with sound & Vision that made the whole thing possible- I have a feeling that this is a stepping stone for many great things to come. Visalia will never be the same!

And regarding the afterparty- there were so many people there that unfortunately we couldn’t keep the Rock Band on Wii going, sorry for that! I hope everyone had a great time anyways, and we’ll see you for more after parties!

They are Black Carl

Emma Pew of Black Carl

Emma Pew of Black Carl

… And they are my new obsession. I crave their music. Thankfully everyone else loves the music just as much, so no one has gotten sick of my repeated CD! Tempe, AZ-based Black Carl recently visited The Cellar Door on Friday, February 21st, and knocked everyone’s socks off.  Emma Pew’s lead vocals are sassy, saucy, and simply amazing- even though she was struggling through a cold. This woman has some serious pipes! The band has a great energy, and you can tell they make a great team- they put on an awesome show! Thankfully, we got video, hopefully we’ll get it up soon!

If you like soulful singing and gritty lyrics, this band will become a new favorite. I’ll be bringing them back in July hopefully, and would love to see Grand Ole Party on the bill- I’ll keep you updated.  In the meantime, fall in love with Black Carl.

Update: Here’s a video from that night. Sorry for the horrible quality, we’re still working on the best settings to work with youtube!

From Sweden, with love

Loney Dear is yet another band that makes me wish I could clap a million times louder… I’m realistic, you see- I know I’ll never be able to whistle like the pros do, but if only I could clap as loud as I appreciated the awesome music- and the fact that in Visalia, on a Tuesday night, we are spoiled enough to see an amazing band from Sweden. I hope you didn’t miss this show.

Here’s a quick pic- will update with better pictures and video later!

Recaps, recaps, recaps!

Posted in Recaps, Shows, Uncategorized tagged , , , , , , , at 3:28 pm by Marisa Galland

Sorry for the lack of updates recently, but I want to make up for it with some recaps…

We left off just before the first weekend in February. Were you there? Send me pictures or leave a comment, We’d love to see you having fun!

Feb 6- Red Cortez

Holy Moly these guys know how to rock it! It’s no wonder they’ve been chosen to join Morrissey’s tour! This was an awesome show, and anyone who came out and braved the rain was NOT disappointed! If you missed the show because you were afraid of melting, you can check them out on myspace. I can’t wait to see these guys again!

Feb 7- Kemaya

Starting at 9:30am, we got calls about “the salsa band”.   Word got out that there was salsa at the Cellar Door, and this place was insanely packed with fun people, awesome dancers, and amazing music. If you didn’t know, Kemaya is made up of heavy hitters from your favorite other bands in the area, including Patrick Contreras, Aaron Wall from 40 Watt Hype, and many more!

Feb. 13- Birdie Busch/Inflight Nymphs

This was the calm before the storm (V-day), just an awesome, chill night. Fresno locals Inflight Nymphs were great,  and brought a cool crowd with them. Birdie Busch and her band were equally amazing. It was really a night to enjoy good music, without the frenzy of the “nightclub scene”.

Feb. 14- Run 4 Cover

We all know Visalia loves their Run 4 Cover- and this night was no exception! Couples and singles alike had a fantastic time, V-day or not, everyone enjoys this band!

Well, that pretty much catches you up on the goings-on at The Cellar Door recently. Here’s looking forward to more events.  Don’t miss the shows!

Wii Wednesday

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , , at 11:42 pm by Marisa Galland

Well, it’s not a show, but it IS entertainment. Anyone who has been at The Cellar Door on a Wednesday night knows that once we fire up the Wii, the party begins! The night started off with Wii Play, where a couple of first-timers had a blast racing cows. You know you’ve always wanted to do that in real life!

Now the party has turned into an intense game of tennis- A particularly loud uproar during the game almost made me drop a glass- but everyone is having a good time in a fun, clean, safe atmosphere. I think we all need this kind of relaxing fun in times like these! Not to mention the sweet deals on beer- $2 and $3 beers all night. Can’t beat that!

Here’s an action shot, excuse the poor quality, it’s from my blackberry.

Fruit Bats/Sera Cahoone Live!

Posted in Shows at 7:44 am by Marisa Galland

Ok, hopefully this works. This is live blogging at its best, coming straight from my blackberry from inside the Cellar Door! The Fruit Bats are currently on stage, captivating the audience with their eclectic sound that seems to please everyone. I see quite a variety of people of all ages… Everyone seems to be smiling and having a good time. Sera Cahoone and her band started the night off, and that might have something to do with the positive energy. All of the band members, by the way, are incredibly nice- super appreciatve of the crowd and the hospitality. Aren’t you glad to be a part of it?
